Irbesartan 300 mg tablet

Why is irbesartan used?

  • Irbesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) indicated for:
  • Treatment for high blood pressure to lower blood pressure.
  • Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular diseases, especially strokes and myocardial infarction.
  • Treatment of diabetic nephropathy in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes,
  • Elevated blood creatinine and proteinuria.

Do not take irbesartan if:

  • Hypersensitivity to irbesartan

Warnings and precautions:

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking irbesartan to monitor:

  • Kidney functions
  • potassium levels
  • Possible side effects
  • These include
  • Low blood pressure
  • dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting

Other medications and irbesartan:

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
  • Increased risk of lithium toxicity when taken together
  • Increased risk of kidney damage and reduced effects when taken with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and COX-2 inhibitors (such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, celecoxib).
  • Potassium supplements are not recommended to avoid increasing potassium levels in the blood.

How to take Irbesartan:

Adults over 18 years of age:

  • The usual dosage is one tablet daily for both high blood pressure and diabetic neuropathy.
  • Irbesartan tablets can be taken with or without food.
  • It can be taken at any time of day
  • The disc must not be broken in half

How to store irbesartan:

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature [77°F (25°C)].
  • Do not store above 30 degrees.
